Mandian Swim School

STOP FEELING LIKE A FISH OUT OF WATER

Adults

Mandian Swim Schools Adult Swimming Lessons are aimed at anyone over the age of 16 with a desire to either improve existing strokes or to learn to swim.
The reasons for wanting to learn are vast, from overcoming a fear of water, wanting to teach your own children, therapy (e.g. Injury and illness), starting a new sport (e.g. Sailing and Surfing), career change (e.g. Oil Rigs and Leisure Industry), going on holiday and don't want to watch from the side of the pool while the rest of the family are having fun, or for weight loss and fitness. The reason's are endless and the possibilities immense!
Mandian Swim School help you eleviate any fears and build an excellent foundation for the enjoyment of water based activities for the rest of your life!

In the summer of 2006 Ian noticed through talking to Moray residents in general there was a vast amount of adults within the Moray area who were either poor swimmers or non swimmers and the contributory factor for this appeared to either be due to lack of facilities during the past in Moray or the teaching methods (or lack of them) already in place to teach adult non swimmers to overcome their fear of the water. Therefore Mandian Swim School was formed!

  • Ian noticed that as a whole in the UK, the methods taught to adults who wished to swim, consisted predominantly of them taking traditional classes to learn the mechanics of swimming and he felt that the students would struggle to overcome fear if they simply learned the strokes.
  • People who don't feel safe or in control don't learn swimming mechanics and need to alter what they think of the water itself. The mechanics and techniques of swimming should only be taught once the adult has learned to overcome their fear of the water first. (There is no point teaching someone how to hold their hands or kick their legs if you can't get them into the pool in the first place)!
  • Ian focused his attention on building water confidence through various techniques, encouraging the student to work at their own pace rather than the pace set by  the swimming teacher, who may be working to other students strengths and abilities within a class environment.
  • Therefore he decided that the Mandian Swim School philosophy would be to work on a ONE- TO- ONE basis with the student and not within a class where attention would be drawn away from the student who needs the attention most.
  • Helping to prevent the student from leaving the pool and staying in control when they panic is also a major part of the teaching methods at Mandian Swim School and helping the students to remain calm under duress is essential for their progression.

ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN LEARNING TO SWIM  IT IS NOT ABOUT WHERE YOU LEARN BUT WHO YOU LEARN FROM THAT'S IMPORTANT. THE MAIN THING IS TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE SWIMMING TEACHER AND BE CONFIDENT IN THEIR ABILITIES.
